PLACES TO GO, THINGS TO SEE

Most transferees to the Ashland/Mansfield area are pleasantly surprised when they relocate to North Central Ohio. It abounds with recreation activities - canoeing in Loudonville, boating on the areas many lakes, downhill and cross-country skiing, a new 17-mile paved bike trail, nature preserves, Mid-Ohio racetrack, and numerous public and private golf courses.

Kingwood Center, a nationally known display garden and cultural center, and The Renaissance Theater, a jewel of a performing arts center, are both located in Mansfield. As is a monument to Johnny Appleseed, perhaps Mansfield's most famous former resident.

The city of Ashland boasts Ashland University, a well-respected private university, while Mansfield offers both a regional campus of The Ohio State University and a two-year technical college, North Central State College. Several public school districts and private schools also serve the area.

Two state parks are located here; Mohican State Park, with lots of hiking, camping and boating activities, and Malabar Farm State Park, the only working farm in the Ohio parks system.

The downtown area of Mansfield is enjoying a rejuvenation, beginning with the Carrousel District, featuring the first new handcarved wooden carrousel to be built since the early 1930's.
