Dear Friends,
Holidays are intended to celebrate or commemorate a great person or historical event. In the case of Easter, it's a day reserved to remember that Jesus Christ overcame death and was resurrected from the grave. That's remarkable! (And worth taking the time to research). It's also remarkable how quickly we all forget.
For me, as the Easter holiday approaches, I typically anticipate the possibility of taking a vacation somewhere warm. In contrast, as Jesus anticipated the cross, rather than try to save himself, He chose to serve. He chose to love. Jesus not only died for his followers; he even died for his enemies. He washed the feet of Judas, his betrayer. He demonstrated grace to the prostitute. He chose to love the unlovable. What a great example for us all. Humility is a hard thing, but the Bible says that if we humble ourselves and trust in him, each one of us will overcome death and share in an eternal life. That's worth remembering.
Best Easter wishes,
Peter Haring
