Family Fun in Shelby Ohio Bicycle Days July 12 - 14

The Story of The Shelby Bicycle Company
For more than a quarter-century, residents and visitors have come together for Shelby Bicycle Days to honor and celebrate the iconic Shelby Bicycle Company at this annual event. Originally founded as Shelby Cycle Frame Builders in the early twentieth century, the company nearly failed in its first few years. The perseverance and focus of Leon A. Smith, the superintendent of the factory, paid off quickly, and the company began to prosper in a few short months. Soon after, the name of the company was changed to Shelby Cycle Company, and the factory commenced building complete bicycles. During World War II, the company changed directions to help produce military equipment. After resuming bicycle production, the plant operated until 1953. Today Shelby bicycles are prized by collectors because of their styling and limited availability.
Celebrate Summer With Old-Fashioned Fun
Although the festival's activities center around the Shelby bicycle and its history, you'll find a wide range of activities suited for the entire family. If you enjoy bike riding, this event is for you! Riders can enjoy various loops and tours which provide a great way to see the area while getting your exercise. Children will have plenty of entertainment including the MiniSpokes Activity Zone, Kids Safety Spot, midway attractions, and the Kiddie King and Queen Crowning. History buffs will enjoy the Downtown History Walk on Thursday night and the Historical Shelby Bicycle Display following Saturday's Bicycle Days Parade. Lots of mouth-watering food offerings will be available alongside other local vendors. The festivities are capped off Saturday evening with a pre-fireworks show featuring music and fun, followed by a dazzling fireworks display after dark. Spend a day, or come and be part of the entire event, and you'll find Shelby to be a warm and welcoming community.
