Our REALTORS® love local fun, and we've got all the details on what to expect when you visit Malabar Farm.

Dates: August 31 – September 2, 2019

  • The History of Malabar Farm, a Local Landmark
Malabar Farm State Park is one of the Mansfield area's most storied local destinations and continues making history to this day. The farm was established by Pulitzer-winning author Louis Bromfield, an Ohio native, in 1939. Bromfield purchased three local farms and combined them to form Malabar Farm. From that point forward, Bromfield would develop the farm, including the iconic barns, until his passing in 1956. Just as it is today, Malabar Farm was a working farm then, with healthy crop rotation, livestock, and a busy harvest season.

  • Fun Family Events All Summer Long

make it easy to enjoy all of the summer events at Malabar Farm, and there are events here for all ages. From late spring through early fall, there is a Barn Dance every month at the farm, with square and line dancing. Malabar Farm also features regular meetings for local clubs, including the Volunteer Corp, Bromfield Book Club, and Spinning & Weaving Guild. Night Haunts, which take place throughout the summer, allow you to explore the paranormal side of this historic, local destination. The fun continues in the fall, with hikes, foliage viewing, and holiday tours.

  • Everyday Attractions at Malabar Farm
There's never a bad time to visit Malabar Farm, with tons to do during every season of the year. Stop by for a tour of the Big House, or a guided farm tour. Hike the beautiful, natural areas around the property, and view a vast selection of local wildlife. Learn about the property's history at park exhibits, and explore unique local landmarks. Malabar Farm also offers activities for school children, which include house tours, nature tours, and programs on how food is produced. If you'd like to extend your stay at the property, camping and lodging options are available.

  • Visit Malabar Farm for the 25th Anniversary Barn Raising
Sadly, in 1993 the barns at Malabar Farm were destroyed in a fire, but that unfortunate event also served as a new beginning. The barns were rebuilt to their original specifications in short order, and a barn raising event was hosted to commemorate the occasion. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that barn raising and provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate all that makes Malabar Farm State Park such a special local destination. Enjoy a full three days of events commemorating the barn raising, and celebrating the bright future of Malabar Farm. There will be outdoor, family-friendly events throughout the three-day celebration, along with plenty of opportunities to learn more about local history.

If you can't make it to the barn raising festivities, there's another chance to enjoy Malabar Farm beginning September 28 at the Ohio Heritage Day Festival. Contact Haring Realty to buy and sell homes throughout the Mansfield, OH area.
