- Malabar Farm State Park - 4050 Bromfield Road, Lucas, OH 44843
Enjoy a scenic view of area history just minutes from Lucas homes for sale at Malabar Farm State Park. The park's centerpiece is the "Big House," which served as home to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield. Today the farm still houses chickens, beef cattle and goats. Three hiking trails provide a chance to take in the natural beauty of the grounds, and leashed dogs are welcome. Hours are 6 a.m. - 11 p.m.
- Mohican State Park - 3116 State Route 3, Loudonville, OH 44842
Both newbies and experienced cyclists will find appropriate challenges at pet-friendly Mohican State Park, not far from Loudonville/Perrysville homes for sale. The 25-mile Mohican Mountain Bike Trail was voted the #1 trail in Ohio by Mountain Bike Action Magazine. No less an authority than National Geographic Explorer Magazine has also referred to the trail as a "must-ride." While the trail is open to hikers, there are several shorter hiking trails available with ratings from easy to difficult. Day use areas are open 6 a.m. - 11 p.m.
- Barb Dolch Memorial Bikeway - Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598, Crestline, OH 44827
Spend an hour or two traveling the woods and farmlands of eastern Crawford County when you ride part of the 30-mile Barb Dolch Memorial Bikeway. Once known as the Colonel Crawford Bikeway, the trail's current name honors a local woman whose tireless efforts spearheaded the bikeway's development. Access the trail through Lowe-Volk Park, a nature hub near Crestline homes for sale.
- Richland B&O Trail - North Lake Park, 268 Rae Ave., Mansfield, OH 44903
The path of the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad lives on for new generations as the site of the Richland B&O Trail. The 18.4-mile bikeway is accessible via North Lake Park, within easy distance of Mansfield homes for sale. After passing through Lexington and Bellville, the trail ends at Butler. The B&O is also open to walkers, runners, in-line skaters, and leashed dogs, but motorized vehicles and horses are not permitted. There's no fee to use the trail, which is open dawn to dusk year-round.
- Hogback Ridge Park - 2656 Hogback Road, Sunbury, OH 43074
Ice Age glaciers, which once occupied the land around Sunbury homes for sale, carved out the ravines and stream beds found in Hogback Ridge Park. One of the highlights of a hike through Hogback Ridge is a 40-foot wooden bridge that spans a ravine to connect the two pet-friendly trails. Keep your eyes peeled for appearances by wild turkeys, whitetail deer, pileated woodpeckers, and other wildlife. Hogback Ridge Park is open daily from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., with extended hours until 9 p.m. March through October.
