Clever Storage Solutions - Sell a Home - Haring Realty

One of the first things any home seller does is declutter and reorganize. Of course, you want buyers to know that your home has the storage space they need. But it can be a challenge to store those everyday items you still need at your Mansfield and Ashland homes for sale in a way that is both useful and appealing. Adding one or more of these storage solutions to your home might be just what you need.

  1. Outdoor storage shed. If you have space in the yard, this can be a great idea. Becoming a new homeowner often means you need a few new things like a lawnmower or tools. A storage shed can let you stash those away neatly so buyers can see that your garage is actually big enough to put their car in.

  2. Storage hanging from the garage ceiling. Again, it can make the space useable for its intended purpose. You can use a rack for storage bins or ladders, and there are even storage solutions for hoisting bikes up and out of the way. That can be a nice touch if you are in an area where there are trails and recreation areas that appeal to buyers.

  3. Double or triple closet rods or closet organizers. As our real estate agents can assure you, buyers are always looking for as much extra storage space as they can get. Ample closet space is a big plus, so maximize yours by ensuring they're cleaned out. Add extra closet rods or an organizer to help keep the items you haven't packed away neat and tidy for showings and showcase how much it can potentially hold.

  4. Add storage to the laundry area. Organizing this area makes it seem more like a useful, dedicated space that can catch buyers' attention. And it will be especially appreciated if you're planning on leaving the washer and dryer. Utilizing a pedestal for storage under the washer and dryer is a good place for extra supplies. Adding cubbies or shelves with bins can also work for storing supplies or "hiding" items from other parts of the house. If you want a folding area, adding a countertop over the top of front-loading machines is a nice touch.

  5. Slide-out cabinet shelves or an appliance lift. You use the kitchen so much, well thought out storage here really means a lot. Slide-out shelves are easy to add if you don't have them and will keep pots and pans or small appliances better organized. An appliance lift is a nice touch for heavy items like stand mixers that aren't used every day and can be a real pain to get in and out of the cabinet.

  6. Add under stairs storage. That little space under the stairs is always awkward, but it's a great spot for extra storage. Pull-out cabinets or drawers mean items stay hidden and organized in an otherwise unused space.

  7. Built-in wall storage. If you happen to be getting a few projects done before selling why not add some between the studs shelves in the walls. It's an attractive look that works for living and dining rooms, pantries, bathrooms, or even hallways.

Whatever storage solutions you choose, they should make the space more functional while still providing some aesthetic appeal. That is what buyers will ultimately notice and appreciate.
