Autumn may be famous for ushering in pumpkin spice lattes, but our REALTORS® want to remind you that here in Ohio, fall also means more than 50 varieties of locally grown apples. Homebuyers shopping for Mansfield homes for sale may be interested to know that there are many opportunities nearby for them to take the kids to pick their own, like Apple Hill Orchards. But what are you going to do with all those apples? Here are a few kid-friendly ideas:
5 lbs. apples
1 cup brown sugar packed (light or dark)
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
Core and chop apples. Place all ingredients in a crockpot. Cover and cook on high for five hours or low for eight. Let them cool, then spoon them into a blender or use an immersion blender to render them smooth. Apple butter will keep in the refrigerator for a week or can be frozen in plastic containers for up to a year. Do not use this recipe for canning.
Ingredients:
2 apples, chopped
1 cup seedless red grapes, cut in half
1 cup celery, thinly sliced
1 cup lightly toasted walnuts, chopped
6 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch of black pepper
Mix well and serve.
5 cups peeled and chopped apples
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. of water
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
Place apples in a 9x9 baking dish. Mix the next three ingredients to make a batter and pour over apples. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and sprinkle over the batter. Bake at 300 degrees for one hour.
