Family Fourth of July Activities - Mansfield, OH | Haring Realty

You're ready to spend a memorable Fourth of July with your family, but your holiday plans don't involve traveling or navigating crowded outings. Fortunately, our REALTORS® know that it's possible to have a terrific Fourth of July celebration in the comfort of your own home. Here are a few activities to consider for your family.

  1. Make Red, White, and Blue Foods for Your Independence Day Menu
    Baking or cooking are fun activities the whole family can participate in, and you can customize your holiday menu to your family's tastes and dietary needs.  A red, white, and blue cake is always a fun option. You can use your favorite vanilla cake recipe or opt for a boxed mix.

    After preparing the cake batter, separate it into three bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl, blue food coloring to the second bowl, and leave the third bowl plain. Layer in your cake pan to create a unique patriotic design, or bake three separate cake layers. Top your patriotic cake with red, white, and blue icing and holiday sprinkles. Or, for a fruity addition, decorate the cake with Cool-Whip, blueberries, and strawberries.
  1. Set Up a Fourth of July Craft
    A holiday-themed craft is an excellent addition to your Fourth of July plans. One family-friendly activity is rock painting. Pick up some smooth rocks, patriotic-colored paints, and a few paintbrushes. After the rocks are painted, use them to decorate your yard for the holiday or spread them around the neighborhood to share a little patriotic kindness.

    Red, white, and blue luminaries are another terrific activity to light up your 4th. You can use any glass jar, like a Mason jar or an old pasta sauce jar. Grab red, white, and blue acrylic paints, clear gloss sealer spray, and contact paper. You'll use the contact paper to add decorations to your jar, like stars and stripes. After drawing your design on the contact paper, cut it out, peel the paper's backing off, and place it on your jar. Then, paint the jar your preferred color or colors. Once it's dry, spray with a couple of thin layers of clear sealer spray. Add a string of fairy lights or votives to complete your luminaries. 
  1. Hold a Fourth of July Quiz Night
    A Fourth of July quiz night is a fun way to test your family's recollection of American history. If you'll have a mix of ages at your July 4th gathering, consider having easier and more advanced questions to ensure you have appropriate questions for everyone. 

  2. Watch a Patriotic or Fourth of July-Inspired Movie
    If you need a low-key activity to relax after touring Mansfield homes for sale, a movie is an excellent activity for your holiday. Look for movies set around the 4th of July or with a patriotic or historical theme. While it's best suited to teens and adult family members, Jaws (set around the 4th of July) is a classic option if you're in the mood for a few thrills and scares from a large great white shark. National Treasure is a fun, exciting flick for kids and adults alike. Join Nicholas Cage as he searches for one of the nation's most important documents: The Declaration of Independence.  Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a classic, clever film that offers a look at how the average citizen fares when trying to navigate American politics. 
  1. Have an At-Home Campout
    You don't need a campground to go camping. Instead, set up your tent in the living room or, if you're feeling outdoorsy, in your backyard. Grab a few sleeping bags, pillows, and flashlights, and swap scary stories. If you have a fire pit, make sure to grab supplies for s'mores.
