The History of Malabar Farm, a Local Landmark
Malabar Farm State Park is one of the Mansfield area's most storied local destinations and continues making history to this day. The farm was established by Pulitzer-winning author Louis Bromfield, an Ohio native, in 1939. Bromfield purchased three local farms and combined them to form Malabar Farm. From that point forward, Bromfield would develop the farm, including the iconic barns, until his passing in 1956. Just as it is today, Malabar Farm was a working farm then, with healthy crop rotation, livestock, and a busy harvest season.
